Dear St. Andrew’s UM Church Family,
As we enter November, a month known for Thanksgiving Day, I’m reminded that one day simply isn’t enough to express the fullness of our gratitude. While Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to gather with loved ones, enjoy a feast, and reflect on our blessings, God calls us to live a life of continual thanks.
In 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, Paul encourages us: "Rejoice always. Pray continually. Give thanks in every situation because this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." These three short verses offer a powerful roadmap for how we can shape our lives—not just on the fourth Thursday of November, but every day.
Gratitude isn’t just a one-day event; it’s a posture of the heart. Giving thanks daily allows us to recognize God’s presence in every part of our lives, even in the mundane or challenging moments. By rejoicing, praying, and giving thanks continually, we are reminded of the ways God has blessed us—far more than we could ever capture in a single day.
That’s why, as a church family, I want to invite you to join me in practicing 30 Days of Thanks this November. Each day, let’s set aside intentional time to reflect on the blessings God has given us. They might be big—like health, family, or the beauty of creation—or small, like the joy of a quiet morning or a kind word from a friend. Whether life feels full of abundance or marked by difficulty, there is always something to thank God for.
Here’s how you can join the journey:
- Daily Reflection: Set aside a moment each day—perhaps during your morning coffee or evening prayers—to name one specific thing you’re thankful for.
- Gratitude Journal: Keep a journal this month, writing down your daily thanks. It’s amazing how God’s blessings add up when we pay attention!
- Share Your Thanks: Consider sharing your gratitude with someone else. Send a note, make a phone call, or offer a prayer of thanks for those who have impacted your life. Use social media and post your thanksgiving being sure to “tag” St. Andrew’s, and using the hashtag #30daysofthanks.
On Thanksgiving Day, many of us will gather around tables overflowing with food, laughter, and love. But let’s remember that the spirit of thanksgiving doesn’t end when the leftovers are packed away. As Paul reminds us, we are called to give thanks in every situation, all year long. Whether life is easy or hard, God is always at work, and gratitude opens our eyes to His grace.
I challenge you to take part in this journey of 30 Days of Thanks. Let this season be a time of deepened joy, increased awareness of God’s goodness, and strengthened faith as we count our blessings and thank the Giver of all good gifts.
In Christ’s peace and with a thankful heart,
Pastor Brian
