Missions & Outreach
St. Andrew's is blessed to have a very active Missions Team
overseeing a variety of mission projects both locally and globally.
The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is dedicated to alleviating human suffering around the globe.
Their purpose is to connect the Church in mission, while making disciples of Jesus Christ, strengthen, develop, and renew Christian congregations and communities, alleviate human suffering and to seek justice, freedom and peace.
Sierra Leone Initiative
St. Andrews UMC has joined the Sierra Leone Initiative. Belonging to the Initiative means we give a monthly support of $100.00 to the Susquehanna Conference that goes to support the pastors of the Sierra Leone UM Churches. There is a need for other churches to join the Initiative to add to the support of the local pastors.
We then choose a church with which to partner. It is Zimmi United Methodist in Zimmi close to the Liberian border. We collected funds for the purchase of land for Zimmi UM Church to build a church and a school. They will still need more funds for the construction of these buildings. We provided funding for the purchase of some musical instruments and we are now looking into collecting and sending funds for the purchase of Bibles for the church members.
Sierra Leone has it's tribal languages and English.
Healthy Women, Healthy Liberia
We also have another African connection with Dr. Christiana Hena who has a medical clinic in a village in Liberia. We first supported Dr. Chris when she was a missionary with the Board of Global Missions.
Even though she is no longer with the Board of Global Missions we continue to support her monthly financially. Her mission field changed to her homeland. She returned home to her native country of Liberia to set up a clinic for the care of her people. Her first clinic was in her own backyard in Kakata.
With the help of an American friend of Dr. Chris, an organization was formed, “Healthy Women, Healthy Liberia”. They have now been able to build a new clinic. https://www.healthywomenliberia.org/
The new clinic is Waterfield Primary Healthcare Center. To learn more about this special ministry visit the site above.
The Lord has certainly blessed the work of Dr. Chris.
We have had collections of needed items from time to time which we sent in barrels to Liberia along with Ashbury United Methodist's "Barrels of Love" ministry. We have taken our collected items to Ashbury to ship to Liberia along with their things. They use a shipper who fills a container with the boxes and barrels. We pay for the shipping of our barrels. We are grateful to Ashbury for allowing us to ship with them.
Red Bird Mission
Red Bird Missionary Conference, located in the poorest sections of the state of Kentucky. Our giving helps with food pantry, meals to a homeless shelter, children’s school back packs, Christmas Gift ministries, Red Bird Outreach center, and other missions that this organization spearheads.
St. Andrews UMC is very active within our community as well. We hold an annual Senior Luncheon where we provide lunch and a program for our community seniors. We host several community activities through the summer months such as music concerts and splash bash at the community pool.
We participate in the local fall festival to raise awareness of our church, so our community knows they are welcome.
We have an Annual Christmas Hymn Sing for the community. We also make monetary donations to several local organizations such as the Salvation Army, community library, YMCA, pool, and various others.
Panther Packs As a ministry to the children of the Milton School District, Panther Packs provides weekend meals for over 350 school children across our community. Follow Panther Packs on Facebook.
Our missions committee is open to all those who would like to serve the community, spread the GOOD NEWS and be disciples of Christ. We welcome new ideas to accomplish our goals of spreading Christ’s Love and to bring believers into HIS family.
