I am sure you have heard folks saying, “When is life going to get back to Normal?”. Then comes the response to
that question, “I don’t think it will ever be Normal as we knew it”. I feel that way to some times and have asked myself, “Will life ever be Normal as we knew it?”.
It would be great if we could return to the normalcy that we knew before the COVID-19 virus; like not wearing masks, seeing people’s faces, hugging family members, visiting old friends and family, buying as many paper product as you would like to buy, going to restaurants, traveling anywhere in these great United States, breathing a sigh of relief. Normal is defined as conforming to a type, standard, or regular pattern.
ThenIthinkabouttheNormalthatJesustaught. Itwasaquitedifferent Normal than we see each day or is it? Like, Luke 6:29, If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. Or Matthew 7:12, So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. Jesus said in Matthew 5: 43-44, You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy’. But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. How about when James says, in James 1:2, Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. These were not isolated instances. Jesus not only spoke this new Normal but he lived it.
Normal is a regular pattern... hmmm! Maybe we need to develop a new regular pattern. A new regular pattern to life. Okay, let’s see. I will send someone an encouraging card periodically. I will call someone that I have- n’t talked to for months. I will thank the person at the store for waiting on me. I will pray more regularly.
Could you do me a favor and help establish this new Normal. Write a quick note, something encouraging, to one of our shut-ins. Or go one step better, call one of our church family shut-ins. Let’s work
together on this new Normal.
