Happy New Year. Yes, new year, now what? (Besides putting up your new calendar.)

For many people it is time to make their New Year’s resolution. Many people will resolve to improve their finances, get in shape, lose a few pounds or maybe even read the entire bible in a year. The resolutions are well intended and most people start out so strong and diligent in wanting to achieve their resolution.

As I was thinking about resolutions, I was wondering how they relate to our Christian life. There are many folks in the bible who resolve to do one thing or another. For example, Daniel resolved not to defile himself by eating the royal food and wine (Daniel 1:8). He ate vegetables and only drank water.

I am thinking that in our Christian life we could make Colossians 3:12-17 our resolution... it just sounds like a good thing for us to work on as we start the new year. See what you think, here it is.

Colossians 3:12-17 12 Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe your- selves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the LORD forgave you. 14And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. 15Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. 17And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the LORD Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

Whatever you resolve to do in the new year, may God’s blessing be with you. Happy New Year,

Dave
